Patron Behavior Policy and Rules
General Policy
These guidelines are designed to promote the comfort and security of library patron and staff and to protect and preserve the physical collection and property of the library. While on library premises, patrons are expected to engage in activities consistent with the operations of a public library.
Unacceptable behavior includes but is not limited to:
- Making of loud or distracting sounds that annoy or inconvenience staff or other library patrons.
- Unreasonable voice levels.
- Sleeping.
- Use of tobacco products or e-cigarettes devices.
- Use of alcohol, illegal drug use, or possession of intoxicants or illegal drugs.
- Making of gestures or motions that annoy staff and patrons.
- Inappropriate display of affection.
- Running in the library.
- Defacing, damage, or theft of library materials or personal property.
- Use of profanity or abusive language or behavior.
- Photographing or videotaping material or patrons without prior permission of the library administration and the permission of all library users being photographed or recorded.
- Loitering or lingering in an aimless way, singly or in a group, so as to impede or interfere with other patron’s use of the facility.
- Possession of weapons of any kind.
- Solicitations or petitions while in the library.
- Bringing animals inside the library with the exception of service animals.
- Consumption of food except in designated areas or at a library function. Patrons are required to clean up immediately after consumption.
- Theft of library material or property or theft of the property of a patron or staff member.
- Altering library computer software or data.
- Any violation of local, state, or federal law.
